According to the usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, it will even be one of the thinnest and lightest laptops ever. The design of the MacBook Pro will therefore undergo a major overhaul in 2026, but that is not all. The laptop probably runs on the M6, M6 Pro or M6 Max chip. Gurman expects few innovations in the MacBook Pro for next year, the laptop will only receive an update under the hood. It is then the turn of the M5, M5 Pro and the M5 Max chip.

Switch to OLED

We will also see an important change in the display of the MacBook Pro in 2026. According to Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to switch to OLED screens in laptops in 2026. Ross Young, display expert, confirms this rumor. Both Kuo and Young expect that the MacBook Pro will again have a mini-LED screen in 2025, but will be equipped with an OLED display in 2026.

Switching to OLED has several advantages. OLED displays are brighter, have higher contrast with deeper blacks and are more energy efficient. As a result, the battery of the MacBook Pro will probably last much longer in 2026, because the screen requires less energy. In addition, OLED screens are thinner than mini LED displays, giving the MacBook a much narrower housing.
