Cheaper MacBook is coming
Apple is reportedly working on a new MacBook that will be much cheaper than current laptops. That is also allowed, because the current MacBooks are extremely expensive. You currently pay at least €1,419 for the MacBook Air 2023. For a MacBook Pro 2023 that is even € 2,398. A decent price, but that will change soon.

If we are to believe the rumors, Apple is working on a cheaper version of the MacBook. This version will probably be released alongside the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro and is mainly intended for students. With this, Apple is trying to counter the disappointing sales figures of the MacBook. We tell you how much (or little) you pay for the cheaper laptop!
That’s how much the new MacBook costs
You will reportedly pay ‘only’ 700 euros for the cheaper MacBook. Still a considerable amount, but much less than you now pay for the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. With this purchase price, the MacBook becomes a direct competitor to, for example, Google’s Chromebook. This laptop has sold a lot in recent years, while the MacBook is less popular.
With the lower price, Apple is trying to improve the sales figures of the MacBook, mainly by making the laptop more attractive to students. The cheaper MacBook is most likely less advanced. For example, we will not see the M2 Pro chip (or the M3 chip) in the laptop and the battery life will be slightly shorter. It is not (yet) clear how Apple will ensure that the MacBook becomes less expensive.
Cheaper MacBook will be released in 2024
According to rumors, Apple is currently working on a 12- and 13-inch version of the cheaper MacBook. This gives you the choice of two sizes, but it is also possible that Apple will ultimately only release one model. We will have to wait a little longer for the cheaper MacBook, because the laptop will not be released until the end of 2024 at the earliest. Until then, we will have to make do with the more expensive versions.
