Manage tabs in Safari on your iPhone

With the latest version of iOS, you can surf even more easily in Safari. Especially the way you can manage your tabs has been greatly improved in the mobile version of the browser. How can you keep track of all your tabs in Safari?

Especially due to the small screen of your phone, it has always been difficult to organize your tabs neatly. With the arrival of iOS 15, Apple has made some improvements to the way you navigate in Safari.

Thanks to a new overview page, you have direct insight into all the pages you have open in Safari. The search bar can now also be found at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top, which takes some getting used to for many. You can now also group tabs.

1. Search bar

By default you will find the search bar at the bottom of the screen. This makes it a bit easier to scroll through your open pages via the search bar, by swiping left or right. do you turn iPhone a quarter turn, then, just like in many browsers on your PC, you see the open tabs directly next to each other, on one screen.

If you are not happy with the new location of the search bar, you can fortunately also return it to its old location. Go in the Settingsapp on your iPhone to Safari. Scroll down and choose below Tabs for One tab instead of Tab bar.

2. Arrange Tabs

You can also arrange tabs in the latest version of Safari. You do this by going to the overview of all your tabs and holding down your finger on one of the open tabs. Then choose Arrange tabs by and you can organize your tabs by title or by website.

The latter is especially useful if you have many tabs open on the same website.

3. Group tabs

You won’t be the only Safari user with a lot of tabs open. However, this makes it difficult to keep an overview of all those tabs. Fortunately, you can group them.

In the tab overview, tap at the bottom of the screen XXX tabs (whereby XXX represents the number of open tabs). Choose here New empty tab group and enter a name for the group, for example Recipes. Open various pages and they are directly in the group in the tab overview Recipes.

To switch back to all your other tabs, click at the bottom of the screen Recipes and then on XXX tabs.
