Maserati MCXtrema becomes the superlative of MC20

Maserati will pull the curtain on a bloodcurdling fast track monster later this month; the MCXtrema. A car that probably lives up to its name, because it is basically an MC20, only more extreme in almost everything.

Maserati announces that it will present the MCXtrema on August 18 during Monterey Car Week. That will be the production version of the Maserati Project24, a so far only digitally proposed circuit monster based on the MC20. You can bet that the Maserati MCXtrema broadly resembles the Project24. After all, not much needs to be weakened in the design because of possible rules; the car is intended purely for track use. It is probably a spiritual successor to the Maserati MC12 Versione Corse, the track version of MC20 ancestor MC12.

Just like the MC12 Versione Corse, the power of the MCXtrema is well above 700 hp. The Nettuno V6, which produces 630 hp in the MC20, has been increased to 730 hp in the MCXtrema. Just a little less than the 740 hp that the Project24 had in theory, but it seems enough to us. The chance that we can try it out is almost nil. Maserati will only build 62 of them and they are already sold out. We are also curious how often the MCXtrema will be seen on a track at all. Now first on to August 18, then we can at least visually admire the car.
