Maserati will start producing the hybrid Ghibli this year, followed by the electric GranTurismo and GranCabrio a year later. This and more we read in the development and production plans that the brand presents this weekend.
The Italian brand for luxury and performance models Maserati today officially announces the development and production plans for models to be electrified. The brand wants to provide all new Maserati’s with hybrid or fully electric power lines and says it is now largely ready.
The hybrid Ghibli, the ‘smaller’ sedan from the Maserati range, is the first to appear this year. Incidentally, the brand still does not tell what kind of hybrid drive the car gets. Next year, the first two purely electric models are planned: the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. For this, the Mirafiori factory of parent company Fiat, in Turin, must first be set up.
Maserati’s home front in Modena is now being prepared for the new – and still unnamed – super sports car, an electric version of which will also be released. Preparations for the SUV will start at the end of this quarter. That will be provided with ‘innovative technologies’, the brand promises.
In Modena there will also be a center for virtual experience at the R&D department of the Innovation Lab. Customers can experience their model to order with a static simulator, a ‘Driver-in-Motion’ dynamic simulator and with the User eXperience development lab.
