Mazda 2

The Mazda 2 underwent a cheerful facelift in Japan at the end of January and, as we predicted, the new Mazda 2 will not come to the Netherlands either. The sharpened Mazda 2 of model year 2023 is now shown in European trim.

The Mazda 2 is nine years old this year, but it is not yet time for a complete replacement. The Mazda 2 – and we are not talking about ‘Yaris clone’ Mazda 2 Hybrid – gets a new front bumper, but we find the most striking change slightly higher. The previously chrome-colored grille surround is now black and the plastic of the front bumper now extends optically into the grille. It gives the Mazda 2 a new, more colorful and, above all, denser nose than before.

Mazda introduces two new exterior colors (Aero Gray and Air Stream Blue) and adds the new Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, Homura and Homura Aka trim levels to the Mazda 2 line-up. Around the instrument panel, around the air vents and in the door panels we find new finishing and the upholstery of the furniture has also been adjusted. The Homura and Homura Aka flavors do have a mesh grille. That is, just like the side mirror caps, in black. These two versions sit on 16-inch alloy wheels and not only have red accents at the rear, but also in the interior.

The Mazda 2 will soon be delivered with a 90 hp 1.5 Skyactiv-G petrol engine that is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. Prefer a manual gearbox? Even then you can go for a 1.5 and it is immediately equipped with mild hybrid technology. The 1.5 Skyactiv-G machines are just under 7 percent more economical than before (4.7 l/100 km) and emit up to 12 percent less CO2 per kilometer. More news: Mazda has modified the suspension of the front wheels and also renewed the rear torsion bar, as well as the dampers at both the front and rear.

We expect the renewed Mazda 2 at the Dutch dealers in June. Dutch prices are not yet available.
