Mazda EZ-6

Mazda has an interesting new model waiting in the wings: the EZ-6. The Mazda EZ-6 is a fully electric sedan and it will make its debut very soon.

The MX-30 is currently the only Mazda available with a fully electric powertrain. There will be one soon, but we highly doubt you will see it in Europe. We are talking about the Mazda EZ-6. This is a fully electric sedan that will make its debut on April 25 during Auto China in Beijing. That doesn’t come as a complete surprise, nor does the name.

The Mazda EZ-6 has a roofline that is quite sloping for a sedan and has a short tail. It is quite possible that the EZ-6 is not a four-door sedan, but a five-door liftback. Its design is striking. Mazda’s well-known design language can be recognized in this, although the car has more sleek lines. Just look at those sharply cut headlights and the straight window line. The Mazda EZ-6 has recessed handles in the doors and a partially illuminated grille. At the back we see the Mazda-characteristic and especially round taillights, although they are connected at the top via a double-layer LED element. You will not find a Mazda logo here. Instead, Mazda writes out its model name on the tailgate. Also worth mentioning is the rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate.

Is the Mazda EZ-6 coming to Europe? For the time being, we expect not. Mazda sells its goods in China through the Changan-Mazda joint venture. It is precisely this partnership that has developed the Mazda EZ-6. The EZ-6 is the first car to be built on a new ‘pure electric digital platform’ developed by Changan-Mazda. It is unclear whether this means that the EZ-6 is the first Changan-Mazda model based on that basis or whether there is no car using that technology at all. It is not completely excluded that the EZ-6 shares its base with an existing EV from Changan. For example, Changan sells an SL03 apparently similar in size to the EZ-6 under the brand name Deepal (photo 10). However, the always electrically powered SL03 has a range extender and is therefore not a pure EV.

In short: many open positions, but they will largely be filled tomorrow.
