McLaren P1 successor ‘Saber’ already on display

McLaren is apparently eager to show the successor to the P1, because the first images have already been leaked. The car, which is likely to be called ‘Saber’, does some of the trick at the Senna.

The McLaren Saber did not hold many secrets anymore in terms of appearance. Techzle recently surfaced patent drawings of the new top McLaren. The car also showed up last week as a camouflaged test specimen. Somewhere in the world someone has not been completely careful with the image of the McLaren, because thanks this Instagram account the Saber can already be seen in its entirety.

As you immediately notice, the Saber is clearly a relative of the Senna in terms of design. The nose is a bit less extreme, but the overall shape of the car is reminiscent of that great man. Here too we see a relatively large rear and an immense spoiler. The exhausts of the Saber are also very high in its rear. Remarkable is the fact that the rear lights are incorporated in the spoiler, which gives the car an almost LMP1-like appearance. By the way, we saw that earlier on the Ultimate Vision GT in 2017.

Although McLaren can no longer really surprise us with the appearance, that still applies to the powertrain. Until now it is only known that the Saber – just like the P1 – will become a hybrid. Rumor has it that the 825 hp twin-turbo V8 of the Senna GTR will find its way to the Saber, but will also receive electrical support on top of that. Then the 1,000 hp limit should soon come into the picture and it will probably be more powerful than the P1. Enthusiasts will still have to be patient for a while, because although the unveiling seems fairly close, the hypercar will probably not be on the market until 2025.
