As a GLE and as a GLE Coupé
Already in October, AutoWeek could tell you that Mercedes-Benz has come up with a new AMG version for the GLE. It’s called the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid and now we also know that the plug-in hybrid is coming to the Netherlands. This is what he has to cost.
Mercedes-Benz already supplied two AMG flavors of the GLE. It was available as a 612 hp GLE 63 S and as a milder GLE 53 with a 435 hp mild-hybrid six-cylinder. That GLE 53 is now being replaced by the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic. As its name suggests, the new AMG variant has more than mild-hybrid electric assistance. Much more even. It is a plug-in hybrid.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic, like the GLE 53 it replaces, has a 3.0 inline-six. That machine now produces 449 hp and 560 Nm. The six-cylinder now works together with a 136 hp and 480 Nm strong electric motor. Together they give the GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic a system power of 544 hp and 750 Nm. Significantly more than the GLE 53 without the Hybrid addition.
With that power, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic sprints from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. A 31.2 kWh battery pack gives the new AMG sub-topper an electric range of up to 85 kilometers (GLE Coupé: 87 kilometers). In electric mode, the top speed is limited to 140 km/h.
Price Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic
Thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the GLE’s 53 Hybrid 4Matic is considerably less bitten by the bpm monster than the previous GLE’s 53 4Matic. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic costs at least €132,597, the GLE CoupĂ© is available with this new powertrain from €135,570. For comparison: the previous GLE’s 53 4Matic cost at least €165,532 and €168,069 (CoupĂ©). The new plug-ins are therefore – relatively – considerably less expensive, but do offer more power and a usable amount of electric kilometers.
