Mercedes-Benz has been entertaining us for months with teasers of a completely new SL and now it is finally known when that new SL will reveal all its secrets.

Although the automotive landscape today looks completely different than it did ten years ago, some things never change. For example, the G-class is just another chunky off-roader and there is also a new SL. Still, a lot is changing about the SL as we have known it until now. Although we generally already know to what extent the new SL breaks with its last predecessors, the car will only soon be completely exposed. October 28 is the day that the new Mercedes-AMG SL makes its public debut.

Wait a second. Mercedes-AMG? Of course. The new SL was developed by Mercedes-AMG and is therefore always an AMG model. That is not the only thing that distinguishes the new SL from the last generations. For example, for the first time since the R230 generation introduced in 2001, the SL has a fabric hood again. In addition, the new SL will soon be a 2+2. Yes, with a small rear seat. The latter is not for nothing. The new SL probably also serves as a replacement for the AMG GT Roadster that will eventually disappear and also fills part of the gap that the S-class Cabriolet leaves behind. The latter will not have a successor.

We will know more on October 28, when Mercedes-AMG will pull both the canvas and the roof of the SL.
