More convex than the EQE and EQS

The BMW 3-series will have an electric equivalent and its major competitor Mercedes-Benz will also have an electric alternative. We can now provide you with the first visual evidence of the arrival of that electric sedan. We don’t expect the car to be on the market before 2025.

Mercedes-Benz is also expanding its electric model range at breakneck speed. The GLA and GLB have electric alternatives called EQA and EQB and the E-class, GLE, S-class and GLS have fully electrically powered sister models in the form of the EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV. And what about the C-class? There is also an electric equivalent. It is not inconceivable that the successor to the current EQC will soon be known as an EQC SUV and that ‘the electric C-class’ will soon be given the model name EQC. But will that really happen? That is still the question. Earlier this year it was announced that Mercedes-Benz will eventually put an end to the EQ label. So wait and see.

The handles on this test model are probably fake.

The electric sedan in these photos may be causing some confusion. Mercedes-Benz also has an electric CLA-like one in the pipeline and anyone who looks quickly may think that the car in these photos is that model. However, that smaller electric CLA-like one is a size smaller than the packed test model that we can now present to you. The car in the photos is still fanatically covered in camouflage stickers and so there is little to say about its appearance, other than that the ‘EQC’ has a less flattened silhouette than big brothers EQE and EQS. By the way, we wonder whether the headlights you see on this test sample are the definitive ones. It is also likely that the handles you see on the doors are not the final ones. The electric sedan will probably have units recessed into the doors.

This electric alternative to the C-class will most likely be on the new MB.EA platform from Mercedes-Benz, while the aforementioned electric CLA-like will be on the MMA platform, which in addition to electric powertrains is also suitable for combustion engines. We do not expect the final production version to be on the market before 2025. After its arrival, the car will probably be able to compete directly against BMW’s electric 3-series alternative New Class scheduled for the same year.
