Mercedes-Benz EQE is EV of the Year 2023

Peugeot e-208, Kia EV6 and Nio ET7 also won prizes

Mercedes-Benz EQE is EV of the Year 2023

The Mercedes-Benz EQE can call itself EV of the Year 2023. However, the electric equivalent of the E-Class is not the only electric car to receive an award from the EV of the Year jury.

Last year, the Kia EV6 was allowed to call itself EV of the Year, but this year it is the Mercedes-Benz EQE that takes that title. The EV of the Year election is organized annually by the Association of Business Drivers in collaboration with Eneco eMobility, LeasePlan, AD and AutoWeek. The Mercedes-Benz EQE was the winner in the top segment, but was also chosen as the overall winner.

In the Mid section the Peugeot e-208 is the winner. He leaves his technical brother Opel Corsa-e behind in second place. In this class, the Fiat 500e is in third place on the podium. The e-208 wins, partly because of the large numbers that have been sold and thanks to its charging speed and relatively favorable lease price.

In the high segment we find, just like last year, the Kia EV6. The Tesla Model Y follows in second place. Third place in this class goes to the Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric. In the top segment as said, the EQE is the winner. It stays ahead of its bigger and more expensive brother, the Mercedes-Benz EQS finishing in second place. Third place is for the Audi e-tron.

Nio also receives a prize

New this year is the Promise of 2023 title. This prize is awarded to a car that has just entered the market or is yet to be launched, but which is seen as promising by the jury. The Nio ET7 can call itself the Promise of 2023, thanks in part to the battery change concept.

Assessment criteria

Range, loading speed, availability, sales numbers, towing weight, price, ease of use, driving characteristics and lease rate are the components that count in this election. The data of the nine criteria were then given a weighting by the jury. For example, the driving characteristics weigh more heavily in the judgment than the towing weight.
