Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB facelift

Mercedes-Benz facelift the GLA and GLB according to a well-known recipe. The two share their platform with the previously facelifted A, B and CLA class. Similar changes will be made to the GLA and GLB. Those two will also receive a slightly wider standard equipment from now on, a marginally changed interior and exterior, some new decoration options and mild hybrid petrol engines.

After facelifting the Mercedes-Benz A and B class and the CLA class, it is now the turn of the GLA and GLB. Those cars are also on Mercedes’ front-wheel drive platform. It is the last two models on that platform that still had to undergo the facelift and that is now happening. ‘The facelift’, yes, because the two raised models receive more or less the same treatment as the A, B and CLA (click here for a detailed explanation).

Marginally different bumpers, a new layout of front and rear lights and grille, some new colors for the interior and exterior and a new wheel option: with that you have had the external changes – which were also discussed in the aforementioned earlier facelifts. Although: from now on, the GLA always gets sprayed wheel arch edges, where they were previously made of black plastic. The crossover thus loses a little bit of its ‘cross’ appearance. The GLB will keep it.

From now on you will no longer find a touchpad in the interior to operate the infotainment system. This is not necessary to operate the latest version of the MBUX operating system. The GLA and GLB also get a new steering wheel with the facelift, the previously optional comfort seats are standard and the two now always have a 360-degree camera as a parking aid and wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

All petrol powertrains updated

Under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB – as with the other models on the same platform – the petrol engines are now always mild hybrids – including those of the 35 AMG variants. The latter is also fitted with an 8 instead of a 7-speed automatic transmission. Also, the 250e plug-in hybrid powertrain became a notch more powerful and efficient.

In short: the GLA and GLB are also ready for the coming years in terms of infotainment and standard equipment, complete with slightly updated powertrains and appearances and some new personalization options. You can order from ‘soon’, the prices are not yet known.
