Mercedes-Benz shows a Sprinter packed with cleverness. It is a show car that listens to the name Sustaineer. With the Sustaineer, Mercedes-Benz shows what it has to offer for the ‘van of the future’.

Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles presents the Sustaineer. It is a show car based on the electric eSprinter. The model name is a contraction of the words sustainability and pawnhonour. This means that the Sustaineer is in principle fully focused on sustainability.

The Sustaineer is clearly an eSprinter in the first place, but then stuffed and stuffed with cleverness such as solar panels and ‘virtual’ side mirrors that reduce air resistance. In addition, Mercedes-Benz uses recycled materials and the heating system is positioned in such a way that it warms the body faster. This in turn saves heating time and therefore energy. More interesting: Mercedes-Benz offers the Sustaineer two particulate filters that reduce particulate emissions by more than 50 percent.

Mercedes-Benz will only introduce new electric cars from the second half of this decade, which also means that it will electrify its commercial vehicles. There is already an electric Sprinter and the new Citan will also come with an electric variant, but that is not enough. After all, those models are still on a platform that is also suitable for cars with combustion engines. There will also be a modular platform specifically for electric commercial vehicles: VAN.EA.
