Limited and super-de-luxe
In Dubai, Mercedes-Benz pulls the curtain off the S680 ‘Haute Voiture’, a Mercedes-Maybach S680 inspired by haute couture, limited to 150 pieces. The location of the unveiling already gives away a bit of which customers Mercedes wants to address with the car, which is therefore un-Dutch opulent.
The appearance and decoration of the just unveiled Mercedes-Maybach S-class ‘Haute Voiture’ come as no surprise. The car follows on from a concept presented earlier this year. Mercedes-Benz has now completed the production version of the car, which is overloaded with (handmade) eye-catching details. The Germans make a total of 150 copies of the Haute Voiture, all of which receive a numbered badge in the interior.
Inside, white is also the hue that predominates. Although the ‘nautical blue’ and ‘rose gold’ of the exterior are also reflected in the interior of the luxury limo, it is mainly wrapped in white leather. Mercedes-Benz used ‘opal and crystal white’ elements for further finishing. In the interior, the upholstery of the headliner, around the seats and in the doors also catches the eye. Around the seats and in the doors, the brand uses ‘bouclé fabric’ with a pattern and the sky also offers the eyes no rest.
But Mercedes went further: The MBUX infotainment system received new ones graphics with more glitz and glamour, the included champagne glasses are in rose gold and the extra common, dark blue piping is meters long. In addition, Mercedes will also release an extravagant bag set that matches the car in the short term. Extravagant is a term used by Mercedes-Benz itself. At the same time, the brand writes that the Haute Voiture is one of its most extravagant and at the same time ‘refined luxury’ models ever.
With ‘beamers’ on the outside
The exterior of the extra exclusive S680 is always painted in the same color scheme, so with a dark blue top and light rose gold bottom. The manhole cover wheels are also always dark blue. Funny detail: the entrance lighting, which nowadays often projects a shape on the floor, displays an animation.
If you like it, you have to be quick. As mentioned, Mercedes-Benz only makes 150 copies of the heavily decorated S-class. What the Dutch starting price is, remains unknown for the time being. You can count on an amount of more than €400,000, because a ‘regular’ Maybach S680 – albeit with one of the last V12s – starts here at €328,183.
