Twice new, twice at the top
The electric MG 4 Electric is available in the Netherlands with two powertrains. Two more will be added soon. The first is no less than 435 hp, the second has a range of 520 kilometers. An interesting addition.
The MG 4 Electric is an interesting offer in the Netherlands. The electric hatchback is significantly less expensive than cars like the Volkswagen ID3, but offers comparable performance on paper. The MG 4 Electric is currently available with two powertrains. The EV party starts with the 170 hp MG 4 Electric Standard with a 51 kWh battery and a range of up to 350 kilometers. Above that is a 204 hp and also rear-wheel drive flavor with 64 kWh battery and a range of up to 450 kilometers (Comfort and Luxury). At the Dutch market introduction, MG already announced that there would also be a sporty top version and a variant with an extra large range in the long term. AutoWeek now knows what those new engine versions have to offer.
435 hp X-Power
We start with the most exciting new variant of the MG 4 Electric. It is called MG 4 Electric X-Power and bears a name that refers to the MG X-Power SV with V8 from Ford and Fiat Punto headlights, of which just over eighty units were built between 2003 and 2005. This MG 4 Electric X-Power is the only four-wheel drive version of the electric hatchback thanks to two electric motors that together produce 435 hp. Just like the MG 4 Comfort and Luxury, this MG 4 X-Power has the 64-kWh battery pack. The sporty top version wrings out a range of 385 kilometers. How quickly does the MG 4 Electric reach a speed of 100 km/h from standstill? We have to guess at that. In China, MG offers the Mulan, a slightly more powerful top version with 449 hp that reaches 100 km / h in just 3.8 seconds. This 435 hp powerful X-Power will not be inferior to that.
MG4 Long Range
The second new flavor of the MG 4 Electric is perhaps less exciting, but a lot more relevant. The MG 4 will also be available as a Long Range. The MG 4 Electric Long Range is the only variant of the hatchback with a 77-kWh battery in its bottom. There is a 245 hp electric motor on the rear axle, which makes the MG 4 Long Range the most powerful engine version of the MG 4 after the new X-Power version. Here too, we have to wait for extensive specifications. We do know that the MG 4 Electric Long Range has a range of up to 520 kilometers. This means it is 70 kilometers further than the MG 4 Comfort (450 kilometers).
AutoWeek is still awaiting a response from the Dutch department of MG. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you more about the new engine versions for the time being. The MG 4 Standard currently has a starting price of €32,285. For the Comfort and Luxury you tap €35,785 and €37,785 successively.
