MG proves to master the art of revealing a new model step by step. During the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it has finally presented the absolute top version of the MG 4 Electric. This is the MG 4 Electric XPower, armed with 435 electric horsepower.

We still have to wait for the Dutch price of the MG 4 Electric XPower, but otherwise the new sporty top version of the Chinese hatchback no longer holds any secrets. The MG 4 Electric XPower is the only variant of the MG 4 with two electric motors and is therefore also the only four-wheel drive version of the bunch. It has two together 435 hp and 600 Nm powerful electric motors and with Launch Control you can stomp it to a speed of 100 km / h in just 3.8 seconds. For comparison: the formerly fastest MG 4 Electric – the variant with a 203 hp electric motor on the rear axle, needs 7.9 seconds for the same 0-100 sprint. The top speed of the MG 4 Electric XPower is set at 200 km/h. This also makes it the version with the highest top speed. Fast charging is possible with up to 140 kW, the XPower also scores better in that area than the versions with 51 kWh (117 kW) or 64 kWh (135 kW) batteries.

MG 4 Electric XPower

Just like the MG 4 Electric Comfort and Luxury, the XPower has a 64 kWh battery pack. This gives the car a WLTP range of 385 kilometers. The range of the XPower is therefore only 35 kilometers longer than that of the absolute basic version of the hatchback: the 170 hp Standard with a smaller 51 kWh battery. The car weight of the XPower is 1,800 kilos, which makes it about 115 to 145 kilos heavier than the existing versions due to the addition of an extra electric motor. Incidentally, the front electric motor is 204 hp strong. The copy on the rear axle produces 231 hp. The top version has a revised chassis with Dynamic Cornering Control System and an electronic differential lock. The MG 4 Electric XPower is also up to 25 percent stiffer, has a revised regenerative braking system, gets ventilated and 34.5 centimeter large brake discs and is on Bridgestone Turanza tires.

The MG 4 Electric XPower is the strongest MG ever. That title previously belonged to the XPower SV(-R) with which it shares its name. It was up to 390 hp strong. From the outside you can recognize the MG 4 Electric XPower by its orange brake calipers, its black roof and the new 18-inch Cyclone wheels. The XPower is the only MG 4 Electric available in the Racing Green color visible in these photos. In the interior, MG folds seats with black Alcantara and a set of sports pedals, among other things.

Extended range

It does not stop with the MG 4 Electric XPower. The delivery range of the electric hatchback is supplemented with a new engine version that also has a new battery pack. There is an Extended Range version of which the Dutch name is not yet known. This new variant is the only version of the MG 4 Electric that does not have a 51 kWh or 64 kWh battery pack, but gets a larger 77 kWh copy in its bottom. In addition, the MG 4 Electric in this new configuration has a 245 hp electric motor on the rear axle, making it the most potent flavor after the XPower. The MG 4 Electric ‘Extended Range’ buzzes to a speed of 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. Its top speed is 180 km/h. More interesting is its range. That is 520 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with up to 144 kW.

Information regarding the Dutch market will follow soon.
