MG Extender gets heavy fencing

The MG news flew around your ears yesterday and today there is also news from the MG front, albeit a little less big. The brand will soon give its less than two-year-old Extender a special makeover.

MG recently presented the 5 Electric and the Marvel R Electric for the European and Dutch market, but it does not stop there. MG will soon be carrying out a facelift on a somewhat idiosyncratic model: the Extender.

The Extender is a pick-up that, like various other MG models, is actually not an MG at all. The Extender, presented at the end of 2019, is virtually identical to the T70 from Maxus. The MG Extender is only sold in Thailand, so it is not surprising that SAIC Motor, the parent company of both MG and Maxus, made little effort to adapt the T70. The T70 got an MG logo in its muzzle, was provided with a slightly different grille and got the steering wheel on the wrong side, but the right side for the Thai. Although the Extender is less than two years old, it will soon be on the cutting table.

MG already shares a photo of the modified front. That is quite something. The relatively modest and interchangeable muzzle of the current model is exchanged for a gaping mouth with an immense fence that acts as a grille. At the top are two flat light units containing the LED daytime running lights. The actual headlights are incorporated in a kind of gills on both sides of the bumper.

Those who are not charmed by the renewed MG Extender can breathe easy. He will not leave Thailand through official channels.
