Mini comes with two new electric crossovers

A completely new electric crossover from Mini is arriving. In addition, the new generation Mini Countryman will also receive a fully electric version. Big plans for the brand with the small name.

The Mini range currently consists of the three- and five-door versions of the Mini Hatchback, a car that also includes a roofless variant in the form of the Mini Cabrio. The Countryman is the only SUV offering, a car that is a lot higher on the legs than station wagon Mini Clubman. We can expect a lot of Mini news in the coming years. The brand says it mainly focuses on electrification.

Mini already supplies a plug-in hybrid variant of the Countryman and has the fully electric Mini Electric in its delivery range, but it does not stop there. Just like BMW, Mini will soon be walking the path it calls ‘Power of Choice’. That means that it not only offers its models with regular petrol and diesel engines, but that it also offers electrified and even fully electric versions. BMW uses a similar strategy, so you can already get the X3 with petrol engines, diesel engines, a plug-in hybrid powertrain and an electric iX3.

Mini reports that its future all-electric model range will include not only the electric version of the three-door hatchback, the Mini Electric, but also a new all-electric “small compact crossover.” That will be a car that will only be available with an electric powertrain. In addition to combustion engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the new generation Mini Countryman will also come with a fully electric powertrain for the first time.

Mini also indicates that it will target the Chinese market more than ever. Currently, about 10 percent of all models sold worldwide find an owner in China. From 2023, Mini will be building electric cars for the local market in China with the Chinese manufacturer Great Wall.
