Mini Countryman given a new look

Mini has now also implemented the rejuvenation cure that it had ready for its range in its largest model. The Countryman has been updated and now also has the Union Jack rear lights.

Mini started the range of facelifts for its models in 2018. This course started at the regular three-door and convertible and ended up last year at the Clubman. The recipe for the adjustment round is now clear: the engines are getting a little update and on the outside mainly new lights steal the show. Since Mini launched the current Countryman only in 2017, it makes sense that the SUV had to wait for this rejuvenation. Now Mini thinks the time is ripe, however, and the Countryman cannot get out of it.

Mini also has a set of new lights ready for the exterior of the new Countryman. From the facelift, only LED lighting is used at the front. This means that the Mini One Countryman can already count on LED lighting as standard. The same applies to LED fog lamps in the front bumper: these are now standard equipment for every Countryman. However, savings have to be made for adaptive or matrix LED headlights. The redesigned front is further characterized by a slightly more rounded grille and a different front bumper with smaller oval air vents. Upright slots on either side of the bumper and a black continuous plastic trim for the fog lamps now complete the picture.

Union Jack

At the rear, it is the new rear lights with Union Jack layout that define the image of the facelifted Countryman. The rear bumper also gets a slightly different line from Mini, in which the upright reflectors are more prominent. Furthermore, it is in the details for the outside. Customers can now choose from two more new colors (White Silver and Sage Green) and new 17- and 19-inch alloy wheels are added to the selection menu.

Mini has fewer firsts available for the inside. In addition to some new leathers and other finishing materials, every Countryman now comes standard with a leather-covered sports steering wheel and Mini optionally places a 5-inch digital instrumentation behind that steering wheel instead of the old well-known round gauges.

Electric range

The motors are mounted in a further developed condition at the facelift. For example, all petrol and diesel versions get a new starter generator and the plug-in hybrid Mini Cooper SE Countryman meets BMW’s latest eDrive technology, increasing the electric range to 61 kilometers. That is a total of four extra kilometers. In terms of motorization, this version retains a 1.5-liter three-cylinder with 136 hp, along with an 88 hp electric motor. The battery pack is 9.6 kWh.

On the engine list, Mini parks three petrol engines, three diesels and that one plug-in hybrid. The petrol engines can be selected from the 102 hp Mini One, the 136 hp Mini Cooper and the 178 hp Mini Cooper S. The Cooper and Cooper S are optionally available with the All4 all-wheel drive. You can diesel with the 116 hp One D or the 150 or 190 hp Cooper D or Cooper SD. The Cooper D and SD are also available as All4. The plug-in hybrid Cooper SE is all-wheel drive as standard and has a system power of 224 hp. This version is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, the other All4 versions have an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Mini Countryman facelift 2020

Mini’s chapter with the Countryman started in 2010, when the first generation hit the market. The current generation has been running since 2017 and has since been available for the first time as a plug-in hybrid. It is not yet known exactly when the new Countryman will be at the Dutch dealers. The prices will also follow at a later date.
