Mitsubishi Space Star: cheapest new car in the Netherlands again

The Mitsubishi Space Star is again the cheapest new car in the Netherlands. It also gets an additional version: the Active.

Until recently, the Dacia Sandero TCe 100 Eco-G was the least expensive new passenger car that you could order in the Netherlands. Now it is the Mitsubishi Space Star. Dacia currently asks €17,500 for the cheapest Sandero on LPG. The Mitsubishi Space Star is just below that with its starting price of €17,490, although the difference is of course negligible. Especially when you consider that the Sandero operates in a larger class in terms of size: the so-called B segment. The Mitsubishi Space Star was already available as Entry, Connect+, Dynamic and Instyle and now a version that will disappear in 2021 has been added: the Active.

The Active version is between the Connect+ and Dynamic versions and, unlike the Dynamic and Instyle flavors, is only available with a five-speed manual gearbox and therefore not also with a CVT. The petrol engine is in all cases a 71 hp and 102 Nm strong 1.2 three-cylinder. The returned Active version, with its starting price of €19,990, is exactly €500 more expensive than the Connect+. For that €500 you get the standard equipment of the Connect+, supplemented with, among other things, LED rear lights and an adapted instrument cluster with carbonprint on the bells.

Mitsubishi Space Star Prices – May 2024

Performance Transmission From price
Entry Manual transmission, 5 gears €17,490
Connect+ Manual transmission, 5 gears €19,490
Active Manual transmission, 5 gears €19,990
Dynamic Manual transmission, 5 gears €20,490
Dynamic CVT €22,490
Instyle CVT €25,490

After the Space Star

In terms of starting price, the Space Star and Sandero are almost at the same level. Close by are the Fiat 500 Hybrid (€17,790), Hyundai i10 (€17,995), Fiat Panda (€18,640) and the Kia Picanto (€18,995). The updated Dacia Spring has nestled between the Fiat Panda and the Kia Picanto. That electric little Romanian is available from €18,950.
