Morgan has presented the successor to perhaps its most striking model. The idiosyncratic 3 Wheeler makes way for the Super 3, a more modern-looking but still classically designed three-wheeler with a three-cylinder Ford as the power station.
The 3 Wheeler, launched in 2012, with a V2 motorcycle block between the two front wheels, is followed by the new Super 3 down to the smallest nut. With the Super 3, Morgan keeps the concept of its predecessor, although there is also a change. lot.
The 2.0 two-cylinder of the 3 Wheeler makes way in the Morgan Super 3 from a machine that can also be found in cars. The power plant of the Morgan Super 3 comes from Ford. It is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder that sends 118 hp and 150 Nm to the rear wheel via a manual five-speed gearbox. Just like in the 3 Wheeler, that transmission comes from Mazda. The Super 3, weighing only 635 kilos, shoots to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and must be able to reach a speed of 209 km/h. Although Morgan uses BMW power units for the Plus Four and Plus Six, it is not the first time Morgan has spooned Ford engines into one of its models. In older Morgans you also come across Ford power sources.
Morgan Super 3
Morgan’s new two-seater grows significantly compared to its predecessor. The Super 3 is 3.58 meters long, which makes it 38 centimeters longer than the 3 Wheeler it replaces. The Super 3 will go down in history as the first Morgan to be built around a monocoque, which in the case of this newcomer is made of glued aluminum.
Morgan Super 3
Where predecessor 3 Wheeler seemed to have driven away from the 1930s, the Super 3 is laced with design influences from the so-called Jet Age, the era in which jet engines made their appearance in airplanes. Morgan has developed an extensive line of options and accessories for the Super 3 that makes the model the most customizable Morgan ever. The interior of the Super 3 is splash and dust proof. The design of the workplace is, as usual, quite spartan, but here too we find influences from ‘modern times’. For example, the centrally located clock shop is completely digital. It is the first time that Morgan uses digital instruments in a car. As in predecessor 3 Wheeler, the start button is shaped like the fire button in a fighter plane. More welcome additions: The Super 3 has heating for the foot compartment and not only has a height and depth adjustable steering wheel, but also adjustable and even removable pedals.
Good news: the Morgan Super 3 is also coming to the Netherlands. It can be ordered immediately from Morgan importer and dealer Louwman Exclusive in Utrecht. Dutch prices will follow later.
