It’s starting to get busy again in the middle class cruiser segment. Moto Morini today announced the new Calibro, the third model of the 650 platform which, according to the Italians, is designed for all adventurous motorcyclists who do not want to limit themselves to the ordinary and are looking for a world in which they can express their inner self. speak.
Considering the success of the Rebel 500 and Vulcan S, which certainly did no harm to Honda and Kawasaki, to say the least, we were honestly surprised why it took so long for this to be picked up by other manufacturers. You would think that following a good example would help. Anyway, better late than never, we say.
With the Calibro, Moto Morini returns to the Custom segment with a bike that, according to the Italians, is characterized by a design with a great personality, suitable for the style-conscious rider who is looking for a unique motorcycle with a distinctive “American” look. Morini says he has broadened his horizons with the Calibro because the bike deviates from the usual norms for cruisers and emphasizes that it was designed by the Italian team at the European Style Center in Trivolzio.
“Calibro is a style statement on two wheels and the ideal partner for daily rides and commuting, for all riders looking for a motorcycle that is easy to ride and handle, yet has a modern and distinctive custom style,” according to Morini’s press release. “It is the ideal choice for adventure riders who want to ride off-trail even in urban environments.”
Another beautiful sentence in the press release: “The clean, modern lines of the Calibro give the motorcycle a strong personality, and at the same time it can adapt to the rider’s wishes by offering numerous options that allow further adjustments, according to driver preferences become child’s play.”
In terms of design, we think the Calibro looks a bit like the Vulcan S and the Rebel 500, but also Harley’s Nightster. Put those three bikes in a blender and you will get something like this as a result. The beating heart of the Calibro is the same 649 cc parallel twin as we already know from the X-Cape and Seiemmezzo, but adapted to the desired specifications for a cruiser. However, the exact differences remain unmentioned, with the exception of the drive, where the chain has been replaced by a toothed belt, which immediately makes it a lot more maintenance-friendly.
The engine is mounted in a steel double cradle frame, with a 41 mm telescopic front fork at the front and double shocks at the rear that are adjustable in terms of spring preload, with an 18″ front wheel and a 16″ rear wheel. Regarding the sitting position, the position of the footrests can be adjusted, backwards for a more active sitting and forwards for maximum relaxation. In addition to the footrests, the brake and gear shift pedals can also be adjusted.
The saddle, of which the pillion part is removable, is decorated with striking stitching and has only 720 mm seat height, which makes the Calibro really super accessible. From the saddle you have a view of an analogue instrument cluster that is seamlessly integrated with a digital display that shows important riding data such as fuel level and gear indicator
The Calibro is marketed in 2 versions: a version with full power and one with 35 kW for the A2 driving license. According to Morini, numerous accessories will be available to adapt the Calibro to the needs of each rider and make it suitable for long rides with maximum comfort, without compromising its appearance.
Price and delivery time are not yet known.
