Netatmo’s Smart Carbon Monoxide Detector will be available from November 16, which measures carbon monoxide levels in real time. Read more about why carbon monoxide detectors are important here.

Last year, the Dutch Burns Foundation conducted an online sample that showed that as many as 72 percent* of respondents do not know where to hang a carbon monoxide detector. Many Dutch people think that carbon monoxide is heavier than air and that therefore the detector should also be low. A big misunderstanding, because carbon monoxide is lighter than air. Since carbon monoxide and air mix, Netatmo recommends installing a carbon monoxide detector at breathing height. Another common misunderstanding is that there is no risk with the new, well-adjusted combustion appliances. The Dutch Burns Foundation therefore recommends that all combustion appliances be checked annually by a certified installer.

Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm
The French Netatmo focuses on developing simple and smart products for a safer and more comfortable home. There is no subscription or additional cost, data is protected and users’ privacy is respected, and updates and features are added for free and regularly, according to Netatmo. We have previously tested Netatmo products, such as the Netatmo smart video doorbell and the Netatmo smart radiator valve.
The Smart Carbon Monoxide Detector will be available soon. When carbon monoxide is detected, users are alerted with an 85 dB alarm to save themselves by leaving their home immediately and alerting the emergency services. If the user is not at home, Netatmo’s Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm also sends the user a notification to his or her smartphone, so that quick action can be taken to bring any people at home to safety. The Netatmo Carbon Monoxide Alarm complies with European regulations. The detector received CE certification (EN 50291) and NF certification reserved for products that meet the highest safety criteria.

Different concentrations of carbon monoxide
The Smart Carbon Monoxide Detector detects carbon monoxide at a concentration of 50 PPM (parts per million). When this concentration is detected, the user will receive a “carbon monoxide abnormal” notification. If the Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm still detects a concentration of 50 PPM 30 minutes later, the alarm will sound and the user will receive a “carbon monoxide detected” notification. To give a clear picture of the different concentrations of carbon monoxide: 800 PPM is considered extreme exposure and 100 PPM is considered mild exposure.

Battery that lasts 10 years
Thanks to the long battery life, the Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm works autonomously for 10 years without the user having to worry. At the end of its life, the carbon monoxide alarm sends a notification to the user to purchase a new carbon monoxide alarm for optimal protection. It is advisable to replace the Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm after 10 years due to wear of the detection sensor.

Automatic function test
The Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm has an Auto-Test feature that checks the status of the carbon monoxide sensor, battery and Wi-Fi connection. If a problem is detected, an alert is sent. The detector also has an Alarm Test function, which makes it possible to check the correct operation of the 85 dB alarm. The use of this test alarm is recommended at least once a year.

Connection with smart lighting and Smart (Modulating) Thermostat from Netatmo
The Smart Carbon Monoxide detector can communicate with smart lighting, such as Philips Hue, but also other brands via the Apple HomeKit. Once carbon monoxide is detected, all the lights in the house turn red or another preset color. If the user also has one of Netatmo’s Thermostats, the Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm can switch off the boiler via the Smart Modulating Thermostat or Smart Thermostat.

Simple and quick installation
The Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm works without an electrical connection and can be installed quickly. The device comes with a detailed installation instruction. The Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm can be monitored with the Netatmo Home + Security app. It is advisable to install the Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm in any room where there is a combustion appliance.
