Netflix recently announced that no fewer than three new features are coming to the app – here’s what you can expect from them.
Netflix gets better thanks to 3 new features
Elizabeth Stone, the CTO of Netflix, has three new changes announced which will soon be implemented in the Netflix app. We have listed them for you.
1. Real-time voting for live content
Netflix has previously experimented with interactive voting for certain series. According to Stone, the company is now really ready to go all the way. When Netflix airs a new version of Star Search next year, users will be able to directly influence the outcome of the show through real-time voting. Stone says:
“If you’re sitting at home watching ‘Star Search’ on your TV, you’ll be able to either on the TV or your mobile phone actually put in a vote that advances or doesn’t advance some of the contestants on the show…Viewers will be prompted on-screen and have a limited amount of time to rate performances. If you rewind or aren’t caught up with the livestream, you may miss the voting window.”’
“If you’re watching ‘Star Search’ on TV at home, you can vote via TV or mobile phone to continue or eliminate certain contestants from the show… Viewers will receive an on-screen notification and have a limited time to rate the performances. If you rewind or don’t keep up with the live stream, you could miss the voting moment.”

Previous tests with real-time voting showed that viewers were highly engaged with each episode. This has motivated Netflix to use the knowledge gained on a much larger scale with the popular series Star Search.
The series originally ran from 1983 to 1995. At that time, unknown artists Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Adam Sandler participated. Netflix hopes that the new series will become a hit, partly because of the interactive element.
2. Immersive homepage experience
Stone did not have many concrete details to share about this new position. Netflix recently revamped the app’s homepage and the company is now said to be planning to launch a more “immersive experience” for content on this page. The intention is to bring the content to life through animations and dynamic special effects. For starters, Netflix is launching a new Halloween collection and a Christmas collection later this year.

3. Redesign of kids profiles
Netflix introduces updated versions of kids profiles on the streaming service. The new design builds on the previous redesign for adult profiles, but also adds some unique features specifically for kids. The new kids profiles are rolling out globally to all users, so you should see them soon.

Just wait a little longer
