Netflix is becoming more expensive again: you pay extra for these subscriptions

Netflix is becoming more expensive again, price increases for the United States and Canada are already planned. But what does this mean for Dutch users? iPhoned catch up.

Netflix is getting more expensive

According to sources from The Wall Street Journal Netflix plans to increase the prices of its streaming service again. This price increase should take effect “several months after the end of the actors’ strike in the US,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

The exact end date of this strike is still unknown. It is true that the current actors’ strike has a great influence on the production of new content. So at iPhoned we expect that Netflix is already feeling the effects of this, and that it now wants to compensate for possible losses with a price increase.

Second price increase in two years

Just a refresher for your memory. Netflix last adjusted its prices in the Netherlands about two years ago. Then the price of the standard subscription increased from €10.99 to €11.99, and of the premium subscription from €13.99 to €15.99. Basic users escaped last time with a stable €7.99 per month, but the question is whether that will be the case again.

Secretly, you could almost say that Netflix also increased its prices six months ago, when the company banned sharing your accounts and is actively combating it.

What will the Dutch prices be?

As mentioned, the price increase will first be introduced in the US and Canada, and only then in other countries such as the Netherlands and Belgium. As soon as the new prices are known there, we can make a better estimate of the new European prices.

We from iPhoned expect a similar price increase as about two years ago. In that case we would end up with:

  • Netflix Basic (7.99 9.99 euros/month)
  • Netflix Standard (11.99 13.99 euros/month)
  • Netflix Premium (15.99 17.99 euros/month)

By the way, with our eastern neighbors, both the Standard and Premium subscriptions are currently more expensive than here. So hopefully the new prices won’t be too bad for us.
