Double Bolt News. Chevrolet is making a facelift on the 2016 presented Bolt, Chevy’s brother of the Opel Ampera-e. The renewed Bolt is introduced to a new electric sister model: the Bolt EUV.
You can no longer order the electric Opel Ampera-e in the Netherlands now that Opel has no longer operated under the flag of General Motors for some time. Former sister brand Chevrolet still has its version of that EV, the Bolt, on the menu in the United States. The electric Chevy is now undergoing a facelift, but there’s more Bolt news under the sun. Chevrolet is expanding its electric delivery range with the Bolt EUV, a wider and more crossover-like brother of the Bolt.
It is not entirely surprising that the Bolt gets an electric model next to it. Buick, which, like Chevrolet, is part of General Motors, already has the Velite 7 on the menu in China. However, Chevrolet does not just stick its own logos on that car, the Buick EUV gets its own body. We start with the updated original: the Bolt.
About 4.5 years after its American market introduction, the Bolt gets a completely new and especially very dense snout. The top grille has disappeared and the one below it is a lot smaller. In addition, a larger part of the lower grille is optically closed because Chevrolet has a large closed grille-like panel in body color. The headlights and LED daytime running lights are separated from each other, giving the Bolt an almost Hyundai Kona-like front with two-layered lighting. A nod to the muzzle of Chevrolet Volt clone Opel Ampera cannot be denied the renewed front. The back is also being renewed. From now on, the glass part of the tailgate no longer extends to the underside of the rear lights, but stops a bit above it from now on. The rear lights, which themselves have a new shape and a new light signature, are connected by a black plastic panel. The rear bumper has also been renewed. Even the dashboard is almost completely overhauled. Chevrolet gives the renewed Bolt a higher-quality and more modern-looking interior, complete with a new and now 10.2-inch infotainment system and a new button island underneath. The connoisseur will recognize the old Bolt interior by the placement of the ventilation grilles. On a technical level, the Bolt remains completely itself. This also means that a 204 hp and 360 Nm strong electric motor is responsible for the drive. The battery pack has a capacity of 65 kWh, good for an electric range of 416 kilometers (EPA).
Bolt EUV
The Bolt EUV (photos 13 to 23) is clearly doused with the same design language as the renewed Bolt. In fact, you should see the Bolt EUV as the compact crossover brother of the Bolt. With a length of 4.33 meters and a height of 1.62 meters, the car is clearly longer and higher than the 4.16 meter long and 1.6 meter high Bolt. The wheelbase of the Bolt EUV is 2.68 meters about 8 centimeters longer than that of the regular Bolt. Little surprises inside, for example, the workplace of the Bolt EUV is apparently identical to that of the Bolt with which he shares his base.
Chevrolet Bolt EUV
The powertrain of the Bolt EUV is the same as that of its smaller Bolt brother. So here too a 204 hp electric motor and a 65 kWh battery pack. At 402 kilometers, the range of the Bolt EUV is hardly inferior to that of the Bolt.
