Pretty own
Jeep is working on an all-new compact crossover, a car that will even come in a fully electric version. Today we can show you the interior of that new and officially still unnamed little Jeep.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is probably the very last model to enter the European market, the basis of which was completely laid under the wings of FCA Automobiles. The Tonale does not share its base with Stellantis stablemates but with the Jeep Compass. The compact Jeep crossover that you see in these photos was created under the leadership of the new management. That means: well-known technology and even a fully electric powertrain.
Stellantis is developing a series of new modular platforms for electric cars. One of these is the STLA Small base, which is intended for compact models and compact mid-range cars. This new little high-legged Jeep will probably roll off the production line in Tychy, Poland this year, so it’s coming too soon to take advantage of the new platform.
Electric
Under the carriage of the small Jeep is therefore the CMP basis that you know from cars such as the Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and DS 3 Crossback. Those three crossovers are all with combustion engines. but each also has a fully electric variant. At the beginning of this year, Jeep already released the first images of its compact newcomer. Then the brand showed pictures of an electric version, so rest assured that Jeep’s first EV in Europe will be a version of this crossover. Count on a 50 kWh battery and a 136 hp electric motor, although it is possible that that well-known hardware has made a step forward by the time the small Jeep appears on the market.
Own appearance
However, the snapped test sample in these photos is not an electric variant. At the bottom of the rear we simply notice an exhaust pipe. For the first time, we can also see the interior of the new Jeep. We see some familiar parts here and there, but the interior of the crossover, just like that of its Stellantis brothers, has been given its own design.
Placement
It remains to be seen how Jeep will market the small crossover. If we look at the dimensions of his cross brothers, it is possible that he will get the 2.6 meter long wheelbase of the Peugeot 2008. At 2.55 meters, the Opel Mokka has a slightly smaller wheelbase. In the compact crossover segment, Jeep already has the Renegade. However, the Renegade has been around since 2014 and is therefore getting older. The Renegade is also available as a plug-in hybrid, but an all-electric version will no longer appear. Jeep recently indicated that it would only market electrified cars in Europe. So it remains to be seen whether the combustion engine versions of the new small Jeep will come to our part of the world. It is therefore possible that Jeep will only market its new model in Europe as an EV and therefore let it run alongside the Renegade, which has recently only been available with electrified powertrains.
It is still a bit early, but which compact crossover from Stellantis will you prefer? The Peugeot 2008, the Opel Mokka, the DS 3 Crossback or this new Jeep? Incidentally, Alfa Romeo will eventually also get a small, high-legged: the Brennero!
