BMW has a new generation 2-series Coupé in the development rooms. BMW will launch the new 2-series Coupé this year, but BMW will first show a series of photos of a packed test specimen. In addition, the brand releases the first official information about the new 2-Series Coupé.
The new BMW 2 Series Coupé will be a special model within the 2 Series family. Although the 2 Series Coupé shares its family name with the 2 Series Tourer and 2 Series Gran Coupé, it has little to do with it in terms of DNA. Where the Gran Coupé and Tourer are on a front-wheel drive platform, the new 2-series Coupé will soon use a rear-wheel drive base. For this, BMW will most likely grab a shortened version of the CLAR platform that the brand also applies under the 3 and 4 series. The new 2-series Coupé will go into production this summer, BMW now reports.
The BMW 2-series Coupé is currently in its final test phase. According to BMW, the weight distribution of the new 2-Series Coupé is an ideal 50:50, although BMW enthusiasts are undoubtedly just as excited about the knowledge that the new 2-Series Coupé will also be available with a straight-six. For example, the 2-series Coupé will in any case be available as the M240i xDrive, a variant with a 374 hp and 500 Nm strong 3.0 six-in-line, a machine that also works in the M340i xDrive. That machine is linked to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission that distributes the power to all four wheels. The M240i xDrive variant of the outgoing 2-series Coupé is certainly not childish with 340 hp, but a lot less powerful. BMW already calls the new M240i xDrive the top version of the range, although there also seems to be a real M2 again. Of course there are also milder versions with more modest petrol engines in the barrel. The stiffness of each 2-Series Coupé has been improved by 12 percent, and the track width has also been increased at the front and rear, according to BMW. Adaptive dampers are standard.
The new 2-Series Coupé will have a modestly designed grille by BMW standards, a relatively flat specimen that is accompanied on both sides by two headlights with a protrusion towards the grille. Another striking design element: like the upcoming electric i4, the 2-Series Coupé gets handles that are slightly recessed into the doors. We expect the new 2-Series Coupé to be on the market next year. It is not yet clear whether there will be an open 2-series Convertible again.
