BMW’s current 4-series already consists of the Coupé and Cabrio and even the electric i4 is no longer unknown. The manufacturer now completes the 4-series by adding the only missing variant to the model range. This is the all-new BMW 4-series Gran Coupé. From November this year he will be at the Dutch dealers.
To be fair, the arrival of the 4-series Gran Coupé is of course no surprise. In fact, no one will be surprised by the appearance either. BMW recently pulled the curtain on the i4, in fact the electric variant of the 4-series Gran Coupé that the manufacturer from Munich presents today.
BMW 4 Series Coupe
The 4 Series Gran Coupé is exactly what you expect. Not only is the concept identical to that of its predecessor, the car also looks like an i4 without the typical accents of BMW’s i-label. The car has the well-known large kidney grille, a relatively steeply sloping roofline and a large fifth door.
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe
The new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé is 4.78 meters long. That makes it 14 centimeters longer than the previous generation. As before, the difference in length with the 4-series Coupé and Cabriolet is only a few mm. The wheelbase is 2.86 meters. This makes the distance between the front and rear axles 5 centimeters greater than that of the previous 4-series Gran Coupé. The five-seater has an electrically opening tailgate that hides a luggage compartment with a capacity of 470 liters. If you throw the back seat flat, you can stow up to 1,290 liters of stuff in the liftback.
engines
BMW will immediately announce an extensive range of engine versions for the 4-series Gran Coupé. The newcomer comes as 184 hp 420i, 245 hp 430i and 190 hp 420d and 420d xDrive. Each and every one of them is four-cylinder, except for one version. BMW is adding an M Performance model to the range for the first time.
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe M440i xDrive
The 4-series Gran Coupé is also available as a mighty M440i xDrive. That muscle bundle has a 374 hp 3.0 six-cylinder engine under the hood, just like the 420d a mild-hybrid (48v) machine that temporarily pumps 11 hp extra to the wheels thanks to electrical power. The 4-series Gran Coupé M440i xDrive sprints to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A Steptronic Sport automatic, standard on the M440i, is optional.
Interior and equipment
Remarkably enough, the 4-series Gran Coupé does not have the same interior as the i4, although a lot is the same. The center console is simply designed in the same way as in the 3-series and 4-series Coupé and Cabrio. In addition, the 4-series Gran Coupé also has to do without the fused infotainment system and digital instrumentation.
BMW 4 Series
Standard equipment includes sports seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and three-zone climate control. Features such as Front Collision Warning, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning and Park Distance Control are standard. The same goes for a reversing camera.
