Step below electric C-class
Mercedes-Benz is rapidly expanding its electric model range. Among other things, an EQE-like in the C-class segment is in the pipeline. But Mercedes-Benz also comes a step lower on the status ladder with an electric sedan. That car – which may be the successor to the A-class Limousine – can be seen for the first time in these photos.
Mercedes-Benz goes through its model range with the broom. The A-class and B-class will eventually disappear, but Mercedes-Benz will remain active in the ‘lower’ segments. For example, the EQA and EQB will continue to exist and it seems very likely that the EQA, which you currently only know as a hatchback, will have a sedan version alongside it. According to the way Mercedes-Benz calls its models, that electric sedan could simply be called EQA. The more cross-like five-door EQA could in turn be rebranded as something like EQA SUV or EQA Cross. The EQA ‘sedan’ is a step below the electronic equivalent of the C-class. That higher positioned four-door EV will probably be called EQC. The current EQC is expected to make way for a model called EQC SUV.
In the middle of this year, Mercedes-Benz already showed the silhouette of what may be this new EQA.
Back to the new EQA. Like the current generation of EQA, the new EQAs will not be placed on a platform intended for EVs. The future EQA, just like the successors of the CLA, GLA and GLB, will soon rest on the new MMA base, which is also suitable for hybrid powertrains. Count on this four-door EQA, just like its larger EQE and EQS brothers, to have a fairly stretched, smooth shape. Although the sedan lid flows less smoothly into the rest of the body. A real sedan, in contrast to the EQS, which has a fifth door. This makes the EQA ‘sedan’ both an electric equivalent of the CLA and the electric successor to the A Limousine. We do not expect the compact electric four-door on the market before 2024.
