New DS 4 coming!

The DS portfolio with two models does not cover all segments of the car market, and a third model can do little to change that. A third model would certainly do the brand well. On these spy plates we see the first evidence of the arrival of a new model between the DS 3 Crossback and the DS 7 Crossback.

Citroën added the DS 4 to its international model range in 2010, a hatchback based on the then current Citroën C4 which, just like the other DS models of the brand from 2015, was simply sold under the DS brand name. The then simply called DS 4 hatchback got from that ‘brand change’ also a raised and with ‘cross-over’ bumper work equipped brother: the DS 4 Crossback. The pair lasted on the Dutch market until 2018 and shortly thereafter DS had little to crumble in milk. In the meantime, the DS 3 has been succeeded by the DS 3 Crossback and the brand with the DS 7 Crossback has been given a decent SUV, but the DS range has not yet been expanded. A third model will soon be added. Our espionage photographer has received the completely new ‘4’ for the lens.

The hatchback in these photos hangs fanatically in the stickers, but the shape and layout of the lighting on both front and rear leaves no doubt about it: this is a DS. The size and overall shape of the car make it clear that we have a completely new DS 4 here. The wheel arch edges show no relief and the bumper work, although taped, looks fairly conventional. Don’t be surprised if Citroën also launches a Crossback variant of this newcomer that does have plastic wheel arch rims and skidplates. The more adventurous version will probably also be slightly higher on its feet.

On the technical side, this new Frenchman most likely shares his technique with the new generation of the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra. Expect at least the arrival of a plug-in hybrid and also an electric ‘E-Tense’ version cannot be excluded. We expect to see more of this brand new DS later this year. Don’t confuse the old DS 4 with the DS 4 S, a hatchback that DS sold in China between 2015 and 2019.
