New electric powertrains for BMW i5 and iX2

The big spring update

New electric powertrains for BMW i5 and iX2

It’s time again for BMW’s big spring update. In one move, the brand adds new powertrains to the range of various models, including the electric BMW i5 and iX2.

The electric variant of the BMW 5 Series will receive a new drivetrain. The BMW i5 was already available as a 340 hp eDrive40 with rear-wheel drive and as a 601 hp M60 xDrive with all-wheel drive. The xDrive40 has now been added. It has two combined 394 hp and 590 Nm powerful electric motors and therefore has four-wheel drive. The BMW i5 xDrive40 sprints to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Its top speed: 215 km/h. The BMW i5 xDrive40 has the same 81.2 kWh battery as the other i5 versions. It squeezes out a range of up to 538 kilometers.

The i5 eDrive40 is now also available as an M Sport Edition (€77,942). The 5-series with combustion engines also benefits from additions, although they are smaller in nature. BMW introduces new exterior colours, including an extensive range housed in the Individual line. New interior upholstery is also available.

BMW iX2

The electric variant of the BMW X2 – the iX2 – will also have an engine version. Until now, the iX2 was only available as xDrive30, but is now also available as iX2 eDrive20. It does not have four-wheel drive and does not have 313 hp like the xDrive30, but has a single electric motor on the front axle that delivers 204 hp. This means the iX2 eDrive20 zooms to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. At 64.8 kWh, the battery pack is just as large as the one in the more powerful iX2. Its range: up to 478 kilometers. The top speed is set at 170 km/h.

There is also news for the BMW X2 – with combustion engines. The BMW X2 will get a diesel version. It has four-wheel drive and is called xDrive20d. It has a 163 hp and 400 Nm powerful mild-hybrid 2.0 diesel engine. This engine version – which helps the X2 reach 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds – is a step above the 150 hp front-wheel drive sDrive18d. Finally, new exterior colors are also available for the BMW X2 and iX2.

BMW XM

We have already written a number of times about the new 50th engine version of the XM. AutoWeek could even report the starting price exclusively. Now BMW itself also acknowledges the existence of that entry-level version. The BMW XM 50e has a 313 hp 3.0 inline-six and a 197 hp powerful electric heart. The whole is good for a system power of 476 hp and 700 Nm. The electric range is up to 83 kilometers.
