New front, new opportunities
Ford is about to undergo a fairly drastic facelift on the Kuga. That facelifted Ford Kuga has already been caught in the United States and has now also passed the lens of our spy photographer in Europe.
The current generation of Ford Kuga has been on the market for three years this year, so it is not surprising that Ford wants to bring the model back to the attention by carrying out a facelift on the SUV. Last year we were able to show you photos of the renewed Escape, the version of the Kuga delivered in the United States. This time, however, there is more to see in the updated Kuga.
Ford Kuga (2019-2022)
The wrapped Ford Kuga shot in Europe has headlights that differ greatly from those of the original known here. The somewhat convex binoculars of the current model are being replaced by flatter, more aggressive looking light units. The new headlights are optically pressed against the edge of the otherwise new hood and have a striking kink. From now on, the bonnet itself extends further forward and connects to a grille placed higher in the front.
Count on new bumpers on both the front and rear of the Kuga, of course, but that’s not the end of it. The taillights are also being renewed. They get a new layout in which the red LED elements run almost all the way around the unit, skipping the bottom. Also count on refreshed infotainment systems. In addition, it is quite possible that Ford will bring the 155 hp mild-hybrid 1.0 to the Kuga. The plug-in hybrid powertrain will undoubtedly return.
Fun fact: in China, Ford sells an Escape called brother of the Kuga, a car with a completely different front than the European and North American versions of the SUV.
