The Fiat Tipo cannot escape the crossover phenomenon either. The current generation Tipo has to last another two years and will then be replaced by a completely new generation. That will not be a traditional hatchback, sedan or station wagon, but a crossover.

Fiat’s delivery range in the Netherlands includes the aging hybrid 500, the now twelve-year-old Panda and the Fiat 500X that was presented in 2014 and is therefore not exactly young anymore. The electric 500e is by far Fiat’s youngest model, but it won’t stay that way for long. Our British colleagues from AutoExpress report through Fiat CEO Olivier François that there will be a new Tipo in 2025. That will not be a hatchback, sedan or station wagon, but a crossover.

Fiat is working on, among other things, a crossover-like successor to the Panda and will also come with a successor to the Punto and 500X. In 2025, Fiat will introduce a new Tipo. That will no longer be a hatchback, sedan or station wagon. According to the Fiat CEO, the new Tipo breaks through the various body styles. So a crossover. “As everyone does now,” François tells AutoExpress. The CEO does say that the new Tipo has a touch of SUV in it, but “in an innovative way”. It remains to be seen what technical basis the Tipo will receive. It is possible that the Tipo will again close the gap between the traditional B and C segment and will soon rest on the platform of the Peugeot 208 and Opel Mokka. Another possibility is that the Tipo will already receive a version of the new STLA platform family, although that would mean that the Italian will only be marketed as an EV.

The current generation Tipo was presented in sedan form in 2015 and was also released a year later in hatchback and station wagon versions. In 2020, Fiat gave the Tipo a thorough facelift and the Tipo Hybrid appeared, among other things. Between 2016 and 2022, Fiat registered just over 2,000 copies of the Tipo in the Netherlands. That is only a fraction of what the first generation Fiat Tipo performed from 1988 to 1995. After all, it kicked it to more than 30,000 copies sold.
