New GMC Canyon on the way

Pick-ups are not available in the United States, so the presentation of each new model in that category is quite ‘a thing’ for the American consumer. Today is the GMC announcing the all-new Canyon.

For those who have a bit of an idea of the pick-ups that you can buy in the United States, the arrival of the new GMC Canyon will probably come as no surprise. Since the launch of the first generation in 2003, the Canyon has been the GMC brother of General Motors stable mate Chevrolet Colorado. That Colorado was recently upgraded to a new generation, so it’s soon time for the Canyon to be completely revamped.

GMC already shows a first teaser plate of the new Canyon. We see a piece of the snout of the adventurous AT4X-flavoured pick-up, a car that GMC describes as the most ‘off-road’ Canyon ever. Although the Canyon shares its technology with the Chevrolet Colorado, the Canyon has its own front again. Just like the Colorado is the little brother of the Silverado, the Canyon has the Sierra as a big brother within the GMC range.

In 2021, GMC sold 24,125 Canyons. That seems like a lot, but by American standards it is only a small number. In comparison: the Chevrolet Colorado went over the counter more than 73,000 times. That, in turn, is something the bigger pickups are laughing about. For example, last year GMC sold almost 250,000 Sierras and Chevrolet no less than 530,000 Silverados.
