Apple has officially announced the iMac 2023 with a brand new chip. But what else is better about this new version of the iMac?
iMac 2023: fast, faster, fastest
Of course, it has been coming for a while, because the previous iMac has been around for a few years. The iMac is without a doubt one of Apple’s best-known and most recognizable products. The all-in-one computer was introduced in 1998 and has been regularly updated since then.
The most recent version of the iMac was released in April 2021. The iMac 2021 then switched to the M1 chip. Apple has now given the iMac another major speed upgrade. The iMac 2023 now contains a brand new M3 chip.
According to Apple, this makes it twice as fast as the previous iMac. If you still have an iMac with an Intel chip, it’s even 2.5 times faster than the 27-inch model (and even 4.5 times faster than the 21.5-inch model).
More RAM and graphic features
In addition, this iMac 2023 supports up to 24 GB of RAM. And the new M3 chip brings special graphics features to the iMac, such as ray tracing (for extra realistic light and shadow effects in games). The new iMac 2023 also has WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
USB-C and Thunderbolt
This iMac also has up to four USB-C ports, including two Thunderbolt ports, support for Gigabit Ethernet on select models, and the option to connect a display up to 6K.
Display, camera and audio
Furthermore, the iMac 2023 has a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with 11.3 million pixels and a brightness of 500 nits. It has a 1080p FaceTime camera and the six speakers have support for spatial audio. In addition, the iMac comes with a keyboard, mouse and trackpad in matching colors.
iMac 2023 colors
Unfortunately, no new colors have been announced for the iMac 2023. That’s why it is still available in the same versions as the previous iMac. This means that it is again available in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
iMac 2023 prices
The new 24-inch iMac can already be ordered. You will receive it from Tuesday, November 7. The version with an 8-core GPU M3 chip can be purchased from 1619 euros. This version is available in green, pink, blue and silver. It is equipped with an 8-core CPU, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD, two Thunderbolt ports, Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse.
The iMac with a 10-core GPU is available from 1849 euros in the colors green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver. This version is equipped with an 8-core CPU, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD, two Thunderbolt ports, two extra USB 3 ports, a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, a Magic Mouse and Gigabit Ethernet.
iMac 2023 vs iMac 2021
All in all, this makes the iMac 2023 a lot faster than the iMac 2021. But other than that there are few changes. Still, the speed gain is enormous and you can use this iMac for years to come.
Especially if you have an older Intel iMac or you use a lot of graphic (and heavy) programs, this new iMac is really worth the upgrade. If you also sometimes want to game on a Mac, the M3 chip will give you the best performance.
