New iPads in October no longer seem entirely certain

It goes without saying that Apple is working on new iPads and the first rumors thought they would be released in October. But that no longer seems so certain.

New iPads in October (or not?)

According to various rumors, Apple will announce new iPads this month. This would not be done via a keynote, but ‘only’ via press releases. However, usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman now says that the new iPads will not be released in October.

New iPads in October no longer seem entirely certain

In his most recent newsletter, Gurman says that Apple usually releases new iPads and laptops in October, a month after the new iPhone has just shipped. Gurman goes further and says that in July he thought Apple would release new iPads this month. But it looks like Apple doesn’t plan to do that anymore.

He did say that a new iPad Air, iPad mini and regular iPad are planned. These would all receive a new chip and minor improvements. They are still coming, but the new iPads will take longer to arrive.

First year without new iPads?

Ming-Chi Kuo also recently said that you should not expect new iPads in October. In fact, he said this year will be completely iPad-less. If that turns out to be true, 2023 will be the first year in which no new iPads are announced.

Still, other rumors say of, among other things 9to5Mac that Apple will release new iPads this week. The iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad will all receive an update. The iPad Air would then get an M2 chip. The iPad Mini will then have an A16 chip, which is also in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
