Anyone waiting for a Mac with Apple’s M2 chip will have to wait until 2022, according to this rumor. Apple has other plans for the MacBooks that still appear in 2021.
M2 chip appears in MacBook Air 2022
There are still a number of Macs to be released this year, but the second generation of Apple’s M-series will have to wait until 2022. That’s what Twitter user says Dylandkt, someone who appears to have had correct information about unannounced Apple products for a few years now.
He says the new MacBook Air is on track to arrive in the first half of 2022. As we’ve heard before, this Mac would have a brand new (colorful) design and be the first MacBook to run on the M2, a proprietary chip from Apple that replaced Intel’s processors since last year.
However, that doesn’t mean the MacBook Pro and “more powerful iMac” hitting shelves this year will still run on the M1 chip. Apple is said to have developed a more powerful variant called ‘M1X’.
M1X will be more powerful than M1 chip
The company follows a similar strategy as with the iPad. Apple’s Pro tablets also ran on “X versions” of the A chips we encountered in the iPhone for years.
If we are to believe the rumors, two new Macs will appear this year: a new MacBook Pro with a modified design and more connections and a more powerful iMac with a larger screen.
