Double spot
The AMG GT is on its last legs, but there will be a successor. That new Mercedes-AMG GT can be seen better than ever in this new set of photos in various flavors. The new Mercedes-AMG GT has been caught as both a GT55 and a more powerful GT63.
The huge model range of Mercedes-Benz is slowly but surely being thinned out. For example, the A and B classes will probably not have successors and the Coupé and Cabrio versions of the C and E classes will be replaced by one model: the CLE. Previously, Mercedes-Benz already cut the S-class Cabrio from its delivery range and something interesting is related to that. The new SL is now a sporty convertible with a fabric hood and a small rear seat. The new SL functions to a certain extent as a replacement for the S Cabrio, but mainly as a successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster. So two birds with one stone. And what about the closed AMG GT? There will be a direct successor to that!
The new Mercedes-AMG GT shares its technical basis with the new SL, as the new SL was also developed by Mercedes’ AMG department. With the new sporty coupé, Mercedes-AMG remains faithful to the concept of the outgoing model. Once again, the AMG GT gets a long bonnet and a passenger compartment placed relatively far back. The yellow one in this new set of photos is probably the ‘mild’ 55 (or 53) variety. So with 476 hp biturbo 4.0 V8. The green one with the fixed rear spoiler is probably the even more powerful 63 flavor, possibly even in a special Edition 1 version. The 63 AMG version of the new SL also has a biturbo V8, an eight-cylinder that kicks it up to 585 hp and 800 Nm. But it doesn’t stop there. The SL will eventually also be available as a plug-in hybrid with more than 800 hp, and we also expect that fantastic powertrain in an E Performance version of the new AMG GT.
In all likelihood, the new AMG GT is lighter than the SL because the presence of a fixed roof does not require additional reinforcements on the rest of the chassis. Whether the AMG GT will have a small back seat just like the SL? That is still the question, because it is quite possible that the AMG GT will become a two-seater, just like the outgoing model.
