Entirely as predicted
You might not say it, but the current generation Mercedes-Benz E-class has been with us for six years. This makes ‘the E’ much older than the C and S class, but fortunately Mercedes-Benz has a completely new generation in the development rooms.
The new E-class is on the roll for 2023 and that timing is very good. In the same year, BMW launches a completely new 5-series. This set of spy photos shows the new Mercedes-Benz weapon better than ever.
The design of the new E-class will undoubtedly not make your pants fall down. In terms of design, it fits in perfectly with its smaller and larger brother, just like its predecessors. Not much has changed in the concept either: the new E-class comes again as a sedan and as an estate. Furthermore, there will not suddenly be an electric E-class, after all, Mercedes-Benz has the EQE for that. With this, Mercedes-Benz opts for a different strategy than BMW, which will introduce an electric i5 from the 5 series. AMG versions will of course also be available. Don’t be surprised if the strongest 63 becomes a plug-in hybrid with the 843-hp powertrain of the AMG GT 4-Door 63 SE Performance.
Like the C and E Class, the new E Class rests on the MRA2 platform, a modular base that will of course lead to a pair of plug-in hybrid engine versions. An E-class Coupé and Cabriolet will no longer be available. At least, not as E-class anymore. In the form of the CLE Coupé and CLE Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz is introducing two models that replace the coupés and convertibles of the C and E class.
