New E-class also as a pack mule
The current Mercedes-Benz E-class is on its last legs. Although the brand comes with a fully electric alternative, the E-class will of course continue to exist. We have only seen the new E-class as a sedan, but of course Mercedes-Benz also comes with an E-class Estate. The new Mercedes-Benz E-class Estate can be seen in test kit for the first time in these photos.
The Mercedes-Benz E-class, like the C- and S-class, is part of one of the older bloodlines of the brand. The S-class has the EQS as an electric alternative and according to a similar concept, Mercedes-Benz is supplying the fully electric EQE in addition to the current generation E-class. It was clear from the outset that the EQE does not function as a direct successor to the E-class. The brand is just working on a new E-class with combustion engines and after the sedan we can now show you the new E-class Estate.
As usual, the E-class Estate promises to be a real pack mule. The current model swallows no less than 640 liters and whoever folds the rear seats can transport 1,820 liters of stuff from hot to her. Whether the new E-class Estate will be more spacious than the outgoing model? Probably not or hardly. The still very young C-class Estate has a luggage space that is basically just as large as that of its predecessor.
Of course, the E-class will return to the market with (mild-hybrid) petrol and diesel engines. In addition, we expect another series of plug-in hybrids. Just like those of the C-class, these plug-in versions will have a relatively large battery pack that allows an electric range of about 100 kilometers to be possible. At the other end of the economy spectrum, we again expect several AMG versions, including a 63 S that will probably receive support from electro power.
