Refresh for Tacoma

Anyone in the market for a Toyota pick-up can choose from only one model in the Netherlands: the indestructible Hilux. In the United States, the Hilux has not one, but two bigger brothers. The middle member of Toyota’s pick-up family will soon be renewed and AutoWeek is already serving it digitally.
In the database of the Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) we dug up the patent plates of the renewed Toyota Tacoma. We don’t know the Tacoma in Europe, but it has existed in the United States over several generations since 1995. Where the Hilux in the form of the Fortuner has an SUV brother in various parts of the world, there are also larger Tacoma and the even larger Tundra SUV derivatives. Successively the 4Runner and the Sequoia. We will not talk about those behemoths, but we will talk about the Tacoma!
The current generation of Tacoma.
The current and third generation of the Toyota Tacoma was presented in 2015, so it will be eight years old later this year. Previous generations of the Tacoma lasted nine and ten years, so the question is whether Toyota completely renews the Tacoma. The windows and doors seem to remain unchanged. Nevertheless, we are committed to a generation change. The Tacoma on these plates has a round instead of a rectangular fuel flap. Such a difference seems small, but given the extensive adjustments that are required at the factory, this seems too much effort for a facelift. In addition, the entire front of the Tacoma is also new, complete with differently shaped headlights for which Toyota also had to change the front wings. Also interesting: the new Tacoma is not only very similar to the larger Tundra, but even like two drops of water to the electric pickup that Toyota showed at the end of 2021 along with an extensive range of other study models.
The new Tacoma is very similar to this electric pickup concept car.
The Tacoma in these photos looks like a relatively wildly dressed copy with extra LED lighting in its bumper and things like black plastic wheel arch edges. It may be a TRD version. In addition, it is a Tacoma with Double Cabin. The current model is also available as an Access Cab and with a loading platform in different lengths. Toyota sold 237,323 Tacomas in the United States last year, more than twice as many as the larger Tundra (104,246 units). The Hilux is not available in the US. In the Netherlands, we do not expect the new Toyota Tacoma.
