New Opel Mokka X caught!

Opel can now freely operate under the wings of Groupe PSA in the French spare parts warehouse, which means that the new Mokka X will also be based on French standards. Our espionage photographer has seen a first test copy of the new Mokka X.

A quick review. In 2012, Opel launched the Mokka, a crossover standing on the platform of the Corsa, which was facelifted in 2016 and from that time it became known as Mokka X. Although Mokka X twin brothers Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore have successors developed by General Motors, the new Mokka X will share its base with cars such as the DS 3 Crossback and Peugeot 2008. That means that the Mokka X will also be on the CMF platform. stand, a basis that among other things makes the arrival of a fully electric version possible!

Just like its French sister models, this electric variant receives a 50 kWh battery pack, good for a range of over 300 WLTP kilometers. In the case of the EV version, a 136 hp electric motor is responsible for the drive. Those who do not yet want an electric model, will no doubt be able to opt for different power versions of the 1.2 PureTech petrol engine. That three-cylinder is there in the Peugeot 2008 for example with 100, 130 and 155 hp. Diesel can probably also, and with PSA diesels that start at 100 hp.

The design of the new Mokka X builds on the GT X Experimental, a concept car that Opel showed to the world in 2018. Important design elements of that concept car that will in a certain sense also return to the Mokka X are the Opel Compass, a cross / plus shape on the nose, and the Opel Vizor. The latter is more or less dark ‘mask’ on the front, a panel in which thin and flat headlights are housed. We expect a disclosure later this year.
