Important expansion

New Peugeot 5008 and electric 408 will appear next summer

The late summer of 2024 will be an important period for Peugeot. Then it will present the brand new 5008 and the electric Peugeot e-408 will also appear.

In September the curtain went down on perhaps the most important Peugeot in years; the e-3008. A fully electric successor to the popular 3008, on Stellantis’ new STLA Medium basis. We can reassure anyone who is afraid that the alternative, the 5008, will remain without a successor. In fact, it is now known when the bigger brother of the 3008, which is also basically developed as an EV, will be unveiled. The time will come in August, Peugeot’s CFO Natalie Knight says Automotive News.

That is still some time away, but of course we can already conclude that the new Peugeot 5008 is a 3008 with a more traditional roofline, so with more space in the back. We now also know the latter from the 5008 compared to the 3008. Count on the same technology. The electric Peugeot e-5008 can also travel up to 700 km on a full battery, although you should not be surprised if it covers a few kilometers compared to the e-3008 due to its size. In addition to the electric e-5008, you can also count on versions simply called 5008 with mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid drive.

The electric Peugeot e-408 is the second newcomer that Knight puts on the calendar. It will be published in September, so on the cusp of autumn somewhere. That is considerably later than expected. When introducing the Peugeot 408 with fuel engines, Peugeot talked about introducing the e-408 ‘a few months after the 408’, so somewhere in the first half of this year.

Count on comparable hardware for the Peugeot e-408 as the Peugeot e-308. After all, the 408 and 308 share their base. This means a 156 hp front-wheel drive with a battery pack of at least 54 kWh, although there is of course a chance that Peugeot will come up with further refined technology in the meantime.
