The current generation of the Range Rover still has to go for a while, but the next completely new generation is already extensively tested. The external changes will cause less shock than the technical changes.
With the current generation, the famous Range Rover ended up well in the 21st century. The predecessor had an appearance that was still very much inspired by the primal Range Rover, which was unceremoniously abandoned when the current one was introduced in 2012. The British did not do well, because the Range Rover is still very successful. However, there is still one important property on which great gains can be made: weight. That corrects Land Rover with the new Range Rover.
As can be seen in these photos, we can expect a thorough evolution of the current design in appearance. In that respect, therefore, there is not such a strong break with the past as it was a little over a decade ago. The technique is a different story. After all, the new Range Rover uses Jaguar Land Rover’s new aluminum MLA base. That should significantly reduce the weight of the SUV. Obviously that has many advantages, undoubtedly also for road handling, but the most important thing is that it compensates for the extra weight that a plug-in hybrid and even fully electric drivetrain entails. The Range Rover also no longer escapes: electric power will also play a greater role here.
Of course, the current Range Rover is also available as a plug-in, but the new generation will probably take it a bit more subtle. It is expected that a four-cylinder petrol engine in combination with an electric motor on the rear axle will provide the drive. Now the petrol power still comes from a six-in-line. All in all, the Range Rover must of course be a bit more economical. The all-electric version is an even bigger mystery and may not appear until a while later. Of course, for lovers of pure petrol and diesel power, versions with only a fuel engine will also appear again. We will know more at the end of this year or early next year; then the unveiling of the new Range Rover is expected.
