The Sennheiser Momentum series is a critically acclaimed earplug range that received a final iteration in 2020. Now it’s time for the third version, called Momentum True Wireless 3. What are the big differences with the previous version?
At first glance, Sennheiser seems to be mainly concerned with matters that have less to do with audio experience. The design of the Momentum True Wireless 3 is very similar to the design of the Sennheiser CX and CX Plus, which Computer!Totaal tested.
The manufacturer may want to focus on an unambiguous design language, but that now has the disadvantage that all ears initially look alike. It is true that they look premium. So if you skipped the CX Plus, you can still connect now.

Charging case with fabric exterior
The charging case of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is very similar to what Sennheiser offered with the 2. However, this time the USB-C port for charging is on the front. In addition, the system supports wireless charging, which is great. Especially considering the price.
Furthermore, Sennheiser states in its press release that it mainly emphasizes comfort, call quality and an improved active noise reduction (anc). In terms of audio, however, the company does not seem to make any major changes compared to previous models.
These earplugs also use drivers that are seven millimeters in size. A listening test is now available within the app, with which you can adjust the treble, bass and mids to your personal hearing. But probably the earplugs do not differ very much in terms of sound compared to the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.
In any case, the True Wireless 3 supports the bluetooth audio codec aac, sbc and aptX Adaptive. Due to the latter standard, there is no noticeable delay between image and sound and audio can be played in a higher bit rate, provided the playback device supports the codec.
An important pillar for the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is the active noise cancellation. The manufacturer says that the system constantly monitors the environment, so that the anc automatically adapts to different situations. Fortunately, there is always the option to manually turn the feature on and off or moderate it.
Price and availability
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is for sale in the Netherlands from May 10, for an amount of 249.90 euros.
