New top version Cupra Formentor on the way

The Cupra Formentor was caught at the Nürburgring. The Seat sub-brand is in fact testing with an as yet unofficially announced new top model of its own crossover, which will presumably get the five-cylinder of its colleague Audi on board. At first glance, the prototype seems fairly average, but it distinguishes itself with one important style element.

Diagonally placed exhausts, it seems to be hip at the moment. Lexus introduced them a while ago on the IS-F, but more recently BMW also came up with them. She also has this prototype of the Cupra Formentor. The shape of the rear bumper is unchanged, but the exhausts have been put in a different way. For the rest, there are no external changes to be detected. The espionage photographer particularly noticed that a five-cylinder could be heard. Under the hood is therefore probably the well-known 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo from Audi. This would then be the same power source as in the RS Q3, among other things, so expect an output of around 400 hp. Furthermore, this future top model is still shrouded in mystery. It should be announced in 2021. Seat Netherlands has been asked for a response.

For the time being it has been announced and therefore probably only provisional top model the Formentor VZ 2.0 TSI. It has 310 hp and 400 Nm of torque at its disposal. In this case, ‘VZ’ stands for ‘Veloz’, the Spanish word for speed. He is sure fast: the sprint to 100 km / h is accelerated in 4.9 seconds and the top speed is limited to 250 km / h. This variant will come to the Dutch market in November. Two plug-in hybrids will follow in March 2021: the Formentor e-Hybrid and Formentor VZ e-Hybrid. These two variants are both equipped with a 1.4 TSI with 150 hp and a battery pack of 13 kWh. The difference in system power is caused by the electric motor. The regular e-Hybrid gets 204 hp and 350 Nm of torque, while the VZ e-Hybrid is more generously endowed with 245 hp and 400 Nm of torque. More detailed technical specifications, as well as prices, will follow.
