Subaru has already unveiled the new BRZ, but it is not coming to us. All eyes are now on Toyota brother GT86 and it will probably come back to Europe.
A month ago Subaru unveiled the new BRZ. Thanks to its more powerful engine, the compact sports coupĂ© promises to be an even more fun story than before, but unfortunately we don’t get it. Do not worry, because it seems that twin brother Toyota GT86 is meant for us. In an interview with Techzle, Toyota Europe product manager Andrea Carlucci hinted that we can ‘expect news soon’. The exact disclosure date is still under wraps, but when asked whether we should be on the edge of our seats here in Europe, Carlucci replies: “Due to our low average CO2 emissions, there is probably room for this in Europe. ” That sounds promising.
The GT86 probably won’t have any major surprises in store now that the BRZ (pictured) is already here. The two Japanese sports coupĂ©s are largely based on their predecessors, although a new front, rear and interior ensures that they will look nice and fresh. However, we find the biggest news under the hood. From now on there is a 231 hp and 250 Nm strong 2.4 naturally aspirated boxer engine, which of course brings out its forces on the asphalt via the rear wheels. Switching is done by means of a manual six-speed gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. However, whether we will get the latter remains to be seen. The new GT86 may be unveiled this year. However, you can count on a market introduction that will take just another (almost) year.
