Nissan is not in talks with Apple about building a car. Nissan says that after rumors that it was one of the parties that Apple would talk to.
Apple is said to be working on its own, fully electric car that should be released in 2024 at the earliest. After earlier reports that Apple wanted to work with Hyundai for this, there are now rumors that it is looking at cooperation with Nissan. Nissan now denies that. A Nissan spokeswoman said the company is “always open to exploring partnerships to help accelerate transformation in the industry.”
Business newspaper Financial Times reported that there were brief conversations, but not yet at top level. Ultimately, Nissan would have seen nothing to make cars for others. Earlier, as said, Hyundai Motor Group was linked to Apple and the company also acknowledged that discussions had been held. Shortly afterwards it became clear that the negotiations had come to nothing, partly because the South Koreans had doubts about acting as a producer of cars for someone else.
It has been rumored for years that Apple is working on its own electric car under the code name Project Titan. Later, the tech company would limit itself to developing the systems for self-driving cars, but Apple would now work on a complete car again. According to the reports, the Americans want to have them built and based on a platform of an existing automaker. Apple would then want to bring in the battery technology itself.
